Pump Engineering – A Brief History

In 1974, John Newberry formed Pump & General Engineering Limited in Billingshurst, West Sussex.  After working for several well respected flowmeter companies such as Cleveland Meters, Neptune Measurement and later on as a troubleshooter for Schlumberger, he realised that most of the flowmeter problems he encountered were a result of pump and system problems and decided to put his experience and knowledge to good use.

After a few years, the Company outgrew its premises in Billingshurst and in 1986 relocated to the existing factory next to the Arun River in Littlehampton, West Sussex. At this time the name was shortened to Pump Engineering Limited to better reflect our mission.

While continuing as a pump distributor, using our years of experience, we took on more difficult and challenging enquiries, providing the best solution for the job, from a simple pump to a fully functioning turnkey solution, and continue to do so today with in-house manufactured electronic control panels, inverters and PLC systems when required.

We remain a family company which has been in business consistently for over 40 years with John’s son Chris Newberry at the helm, building process skids, control panels, flowmeter batching systems, carrying out repairs and servicing of pumps and much more.

In 2002 we formed our sister company Process Installations Limited who design, install, and repair all types of pipework and process plant, so you can come to one place and know that we can design, specify and select equipment, build, program and install your plant, or any of those parts of the process as stand-alone supply and services.
